- The problem is that Amigans scream murder when they even get the slightest hint
- that program X might be 'wasting' some resources. Sure, wasting resources
- should not be encouraged, but putting programs down just because they
- -think- that it could be done better by using less resources (which is infact
- ALWAYS the case with just about any program) is ridiculous.

-
- Sure, but on Amiga everybody seems to be an expert on this subject, who call
- any program which is 'too big' in their eyes a waste of resources. Or they say
- it could be done "better" without even knowing anything about what the program
- does, why it takes that much resources or what features it has compared to
- programs which in their eyes are better because they use less memory.
-
- Better = more features -OR- using less memory
-
- In reality you can't get both of these so you have to make a choice. On Amiga
- we would rather use less memory then have more, better and modern features in,
- for example, a word-processor. This means professional programs are hard to
- find on Amiga, most of them just have got the basic features which are
- absolutely required to make the program reasonably usefull, but no more than
- that.

- Encouraging to not *WASTE* resources is fine with me, but at the moment people
- are actually pushing programs not to use much resources at all, even if the
- reason to use extra resources is justified by extra features.

-
- 'Throw in a couple of more megs' is in a lot of cases a very good excuse.
- Amigans just don't want to see it though, they believe that 1 or 2 MB should be
- enough for any program.
-
- I seriously hope that the next batch of Amiga's is really easy to upgrade when
- it comes to memory or processor power (and this includes the low-end models),
- so excuses like it is too expensive to upgrade can no longer be applied.
- Sometimes I really think that Amiga users simply don't want to spend any more
- money on their Amiga, and expect to be supported for life.
-
- Leave the people who do not want to upgrade behind, they obviously aren't
- helping the Amiga-hardware situation by not upgrading, don't let them also
- spoil the Amiga-software situation because their pathetic setups can't handle
- modern programs with professional features.
-
- SD> affliction doesn't mean it is acceptable practice, or should be

-
- It isn't tolerated at all on Amiga that's the problem, even if the reason for
- using that memory is valid. People don't expect programs like word-processors
- or spreadsheets to use more than 1 or 2MB of memory, however GOOD (ie, with
- modern features) word-processors and spreadsheet can easily require double that
- amount of memory.
-
- SD> You claim, and I quote [the Amiga is] "The most efficient computer

-
- That's the whole problem with the Amiga attitude. People actually think that
- App X 'throws away' memory for no good reason -- that simply isn't the case,
- you can bet your ass that that memory is used with good reasons -- infact, on
- Amiga you have too, as it has still got to run on those pathetic 1 MB Amiga's.
